DIY Body Wash From Bar Soap
This morning I was listening to Washing Over Me by GoldFish and that reminded me of something I have in my possession that I've named "Bag O' Soap." It is a collection of soaps I've aquired over many holidays as gifts from friends, random boyfriends that were forced into Secret Santa, and anyone else that decided I needed a particular wonderful soap.
I looooove the smell of soap. There is such a wide range of scents that it would probably take me three life times to try them all. However, I prefer to use body wash. Which doesn't have the same range of scents. So what is a body wash loving gal supposed to do in a world of bar soap? Simple DIY!
DIY Body Wash
3 cups Grated Bar Soap
2 cups Water (Distilled or Spring)
Storage Container
Grate the soap using a cheese grater. (This took me about two bars of soap but mine were pretty big) In a pot, heat water on High until it is boiling rapidly then reduce heat to Low. Add grated soap and whisk gently until the soap has melted. Once all of the soap has melted put the entire pot into the fridge to cool. Stir every so often until completely chilled (it will thicken as it cools). Pour into a container and presto! Your very own body wash.
A couple tips to help you along the way:
* This will make for a thick body wash. If you'd prefer yours to be thinner (say if you're using a container with a pump) then add another 1/2 cup of water to the recipe.
* Make sure to use Distilled or Spring water. Tap water contains all sorts of drying chemicals, not to mention your water may just be hard.
* If you stir it too fast then it will start to bubble and that is your soap evaporating instead of just melting.
* If you have an off-price department store near you then go get your bar soaps there. They typically have an excellent selection of different scents, brands, and sizes so you're sure to find something that will please you.
* Check your local dollar store for storage containers if you do not have any empty bottles around.
There you go ladies, a quick and easy solution to use up all of the bar soap you may have laying around. If you tried it, let us know how it went for you! Until next time amigas, adios!
