Spring Cleaning: One Day At A Time
Spring cleaning, what can I say about it? I've typed this opening paragraph three different times trying to make it seem less daunting than it actually is, but truth be told it is a painful necessity. Deep cleaning your home is a must to prevent mold and mildew from forming but also to keep undesirables from living in the nooks and crannies, such as spiders, fleas, and dust mites. All very, very gross.
Yet, you're busy. You've got work, family, taxes, and a social life that need to come before you dive head first into cleaning out the closets. It can be done though. If you take just an hour or two a day you can get your home completely clean in just 2 weeks.
I used to clean homes and apartments professionally for a living so I can tell you the only thing you need to remember when Spring Cleaning your home:
Clean Top to Bottom, Inside to Out Removing Everything Before You Clean
Day 1:
Dust any cobwebs on the ceiling.
Wash light fixures, ceiling fans, and mouldings.
Day 2-5:
Clean the tops of cabinets and shelves. Remove everything, clean the inside then clean the fronts, sides, and bottoms.
Day 6:
Wash all windows, mirrors, dressings, screens, shades, shower curtains, and table cloths.
Day 7:
Wipe down walls and doors especially around stove top, sinks, knobs, and handles.
Day 8:
Wipe down any decorative items (picture frames, etc) or other items you do not use often.
Day 9:
Clean all tile walls, scrubbing grout carefully.
Discard all expired products and wash all basket liners.
Day 10:
Clean out all drawers, bookcases, etc and wipe the fronts.
Wipe down all counter tops, inside of sinks, and tubs.
Day 11:
Bleach toilet seats, if possible.
Wash all rugs, if possible.
Day 12:
Sweep floors and vacuum carpets, moving furniture out of the way.
Day 13:
Scrub floors with a brush and wipe down baseboards, drying with a rag along the way.
Day 14:
Clean all carpets, baseboards, and vents.
In the mean time wipe down tops, dry dust, sweep, and vacuum as needed. Take your time, open the windows, put on some music (may I suggest your favorite 80's hair metal or 90's dance club jams), pour a glass of wine, do whatever it takes to make it as bearable as possible. When you're all finished treat yourself to a mani/pedi for a job well down. Now you do not have to do it again til next year. Good luck amigas. Until next time amigas, adios!
